Cheese, Ham & Herb Loaf

A perfect pull-apart loaf, served warm with butter, pure decadence and #JustDelicious.

Eskort Mini Picnic Ham, cut into thin half moon slices

125 ml

warm water

fresh parsley, finely chopped;

20 ml

fresh chives, finely chopped

15 ml

fresh thyme, finely chopped

100 g

cheddar cheese, finely grated


milk, to glaze


Spray 'n Cook


  • Pre-heat oven to 200°C and grease a 22cm long loaf tin with spray and cook.

  • Put yeast, sugar and 125ml warm water into a small bowl and stir well. Set aside for 10 minutes, until bubbles start appearing on the surface. Mixture should be slightly frothy and look as if it has increased in size a little.

  • Sift flour and salt into a large bowl, make a well in the centre and add the yeast mixture and the 250ml of warm water.

  • Mix until a soft dough forms, turn out on a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until a smooth dough forms.

  • Place the dough into an oiled bowl, cover with a cloth and leave in a warm place to rise, about 1 hour.

  • Lightly punch down the dough and knead for 1 minute. Divide the dough into about 16 pieces and shape into flat discs.

  • Mix the herbs with the cheese and put a teaspoonful of the mixture onto one of the discs, press another dough disc on top of that and repeat the process with all the remaining dough and cheese and herb mixture (you will need to make 2-3 stacks of the dough discs).

  • Once all your mixture and dough is stacked, turn each stack on its side and place tightly together in the loaf tin to fill the tin. Insert a slice of Eskort Mini Picnic Ham into each gap between discs.

  • Cover loaf with a cloth and leave for another 30 minutes to rise again.

  • Uncover loaf and lightly brush with milk, bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.

  • Remove from oven, allow to cool slightly, then turn bread out onto a cooling rack.

  • Loaf should be golden brown and crusty and sound slightly hollow when the base is tapped.

  • Slice and serve warm.
