Mini Pork & Ale Pies
Mini Pork & Ale Pies

Ingredients:

 

500 g

Eskort Smoked Mini Eisbein, chopped

15 ml

olive oil

2 sheets

puff pastry

1

onion, chopped

pinch

salt

330 ml

Ale (beer)

jug (±500 ml)

store-bought or home-made gravy

30 ml

dried thyme

15 ml

ground nutmeg

1 can

butter beans

1

egg, beaten, for brushing

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.

  2. Fry the onion in the olive oil then add the Eisbein. Next add the salt and herbs and stir together. Add half the can of ale and then the butter beans and simmer together for about 10 minutes. Add the other half the the ale and simmer for a further 10 minutes. Set the filling aside.

  3. Roll out the puff pastry and cut into 24 squares and line a greased muffin tray with puff pastry in each of the 12 cups. Spoon the filling into the pastry and a spoonful of gravy and cover the pies with the remaining 12 squares pressing the sides together to close the pies.

  4. You can decorate the pies with extra puff pastry, but make sure you pierce holes in the pastry to allow the air to escape. Brush with egg and bake for 45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.

  5. Serve with hot gravy!
