Chakalaka Star Bread

Ingredients:

 

8 - 10 slices

Eskort Mini Picnic Ham

8 - 10 slices

Eskort Polony of choice

200 g

Eskort Shoulder Bacon

2 cans

Chakalaka (one for cooking, one for serving)

1 tub

cream cheese

10 - 12

leaves purple basil (normal basil will work!)

1 kg

ready made bread dough

1

egg, beaten for brushing

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.

  2. Roll out the bread dough and cut into 4 large pizza-sized circles. Lay the first dough layer onto a floured surface and spread half a can of Chakalaka evenly over, then add the Eskort Picnic Ham slices.

  3. Lay a second dough layer over and spread the cream cheese evenly over the surface. Next, add the Eskort Polony slices and basil.

  4. Lay the third dough layer over and spread the rest of the can of Chakalaka evenly and add the Eskort Shoulder Bacon.

  5. Top with the last layer of bread dough and brush with egg.

  6. Cut the layers from just off the centre to the edge – the same way that you would cut a cake, but leave space in the centre of the dough so that your bread all stays connected.

  7. Take each segment and turn it over at the end so that you form a spiral (refer to the recipe image for help).

  8. Bake for 50 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
